The New York Mets have seemed to slow down after being one of the top teams in the MLB after a very rough month of June.
The Mets have fallen into quite a slump losing many games and now having to compete with having to stay in playoff contention. The Mets are currently competing with the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the National League East.
The Mets have faced issues on the pitching side as many pitchers are injured or are not too experienced. Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea, the Mets ace pitchers have been injured and not been able to play recently. So far, the best pitchers have been David Peterson, Clay Holmes, Ryne Stanek, and Edwin Diaz.
On the batting side, the Mets have not been looking so great. The only player who had himself a great month of July was Juan Soto, who the Mets signed in the offseason for a hefty fifteen-year, $765 million dollar contract. Soto was named NL Player of the Month for hitting 11 home runs and 20 rbi’s for the month of June.
The Mets now have to rely on the return of their ace pitchers and also see what they can get through the trade deadline. Considering how the last few weeks have gone for the Mets, the deadline maybe a great way to find some pitchers and also some batters to help them finish the season strong.
The slump has been rough for the Mets in terms of staying in contention, but they still remain at the top of the Wildcard. If the Mets want to get out of the slump, they may want to see who’s available in the trade deadline.
