After a nothing but stellar season with the New York Yankees, Juan Soto broke the hearts of many fans back in December when he decided to sign with the Yankees’ crosstown rival, the New York Mets. The move was highly publicized as were the details, $765 million to be paid out over 15 years. That comes out to $51 million a year, that’s a mere $20 million more than what the Yankees paid Soto in 2024. However, according to Juan Soto, in a recent interview on the Abriendo Podcast, it was not about the money.
Many fans in the Bronx were shocked to this news; fans in Queens however, were elated.
When asked what his top five teams were when deciding he said, “The Dodgers, Toronto, Boston, the Mets, and the Yankees.” He continued, “All the facilities they gave, a tremendous contract, but there were many things that they put around the contract [that would help me and my family] and the contract is 15 years; the farm system they have, [how they’re going to look] in 15 years. We analyzed to see what it was that [they] had, [who] will have better status to be able to continue moving forward.”
Soto even put to bed some rumors surrounding his negotiations with the Yankees. When asked about the supposed issues the Yankees had with his security team Soto simply responded, “False.” He responded the same way to questions about his supposed demand for a suite for his family and friends.
Juan Soto has made a few things clear with this move from the Bronx to Queens: 1) He is much more mature than people seem to realize and 2) We should get used to seeing him in orange and blue.
