What We Know about The Boys Season Five So Far

Butcher and the rest of the boys are coming back for another round of chaos and fans are eager to know what’s in store for season five of Amazon Prime’s hit superhero satire. With one of Amazon Prime’s best TV series currently filming its latest set of new episodes, confirmed details, rumors, and theories are currently on the rise. With all this new information circulating around this highly anticipated season, here is what we know about The Boys season five so far.

Season Five will be the Final Installment

Following an intense cliffhanger at the end of season four, season five was confirmed to wrap up all of The Boys’ main storylines in an final conclusive chapter. This decision to wrap up everything in season five was planned in advance so it will likely not change. During an interview with TV Line, showrunner Eric Kripke explained how they had decided that season five would be the last entry all the way back when they were working on The Boys season three. Kripke also made a post on X confirming this.

The caption on his post read: “Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan; I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

Soldier Boy Will Return

There have been many deaths and many new faces that have appeared throughout the series causing the line of characters to change with each season. However, fans can, of course, expect to see members of the original cast like Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Erin Moriarty as Starlight/Annie, Antony Starr as Homelander, and many more for one final hoorah. Of course, these characters were likely to make an appearance once again but one character that wasn’t so likely is Soldier Boy. Homelander’s predecessor played by Jensen Ackles was confirmed to make his comeback in season five. This big reveal came during San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2024 where Kripke explained that this return would explore the father-son relationship between Soldier Boy and Homelander in greater detail.

During a 2022 interview, Kripke said, “We’ll all have to wait and see, but I can’t imagine the series ending without Soldier Boy making another appearance.”

Aside from returning characters, there has already been confirmed details of new characters coming in season five. In October 2024, The Boys cast Stranger Things star Mason Dye as a seemingly ageless Supe named Bombsight for season five. And in February 2025, Ackles revealed that his former Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins would also be joining the season five cast. Little is known however about the roles these two stars will play. And finally, Daveed Diggs, star of Hamilton, Snowpiercer, and The Little Mermaid, has also been confirmed to join the cast although her role in season five still remains a mystery as well.

Plot of the Finale

The overall goal of the boys has always been the same: kill Homelander. But each season always came with its own problems and challenges, and it’s pretty clear that the final season won’t be any different. As of March 2025, the plot synopsis has not yet been revealed to fans. However, there has been a lot of speculation about where the show will go based on the season four finale. Some answers that fans can expect to be revealed are Butcher’s destination with the supe-killing virus, the whereabouts of Homelander’s son, phase two of Sage’s plan, and so much more. However, one answer that is kept so secretive, that even the cast doesn’t know, is the ending.

In an interview with ScreenRant at SXSW, Colby Minifie, who plays Vought’s CEO, Ashley Barrett, revealed that The Boys’ ending is being kept under heavy wraps, even from the cast. She explains that the scripts for the last two episodes still haven’t been revealed to the cast yet. The secrecy around this final season shows that this unpredictable superhero TV series still has a lot more twists and turns to be revealed. This also means that the stakes in this show are at an all-time high. No character is safe for what is to come. While speaking with GamesRadar+ at SDCC, Kripke confirmed there was “no guarantee” that any of the returning cast would survive the final season.

“There’s no guarantee who’s going to survive because you don’t have to keep the cast for another season,” Kripke said. “So you can have really shocking, big things happen all the time. The writers, as we’re starting to cook it up, we’re really enjoying that.”
Season five has a lot at stake and a lot to wrap up, but even though the show is coming to an end that doesn’t mean The Boys universe has to. Kripke confirmed that Gen V season two will take place directly after The Boys season four during an interview with Variety. And during SDCC 2024, a new The Boys spin-off, titled Vought Rising, set during the ’50s was announced. With spin-offs on the rise, The Boys universe will continue to thrive. The Boys season five is set to release in 2026.
