The New York Mets have had one of their best starts in years with being 18-7 as of April 24th, 2025. Much better than last year after starting 0-5 with no fans in the stadium.
The Mets have been continuing the momentum from last year’s postseason after fixing their struggles last year in the midseason, they have turned themselves into one of the most powerful teams in the league.
One of the biggest storylines this year was the signing of Juan Soto to a 15-year, $765 million dollar contract. So far it the impact of Soto has been shown in glimpses, but still not at the top form as fans were expecting.
The factors that have kept the Mets in relevancy have been the performance of the bullpen. The bullpen who did not look great in the offseason, have been one most dominant this year. Another factor has been the performances of Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Jesse Winker. These three players have come through for the Mets at moments that were crucial to seal the game.
The Mets have also been impressive with how some of their key players Ronny Mauricio, Jeff McNeil, and Francisco Alvarez have ‘been injured, and not available at the start of the season.
The question is if the Mets can hang on, as many years the Mets have had strong starts to end up falling out. The team also has the pressure of the other teams in the National League with the Dodgers and the Padres who are also the scariest teams in the league.
Can the team from Flushing, Queens handle the pressure that they have, or will they fall? There is still a long way from October, so there is time to figure it all out.
