DC Fashion Week Brings International High Fashion to the Capital for Fall/Winter 2025

After a week of fashion and creativity, DC Fashion Week (DCFW) wrapped up its final event with the 42nd International Couture Collections Showcase, showcasing an eclectic mix of global influences and design.

This year’s show took place at the National Housing Center. The building was loud with style, music, chatter, and CULTURE.

Before the show started, guests were able to mingle as they found their seats. There were also tables set up for small business owners who were selling custom jewelry, clothing, and more.

Ean Williams, the visionary founder of DCFW, took the stage looking effortlessly stylish and full of energy. With his commanding presence, he set the tone for the night, ready to celebrate the events 21-year milestone amongst his guests.

“Last night, we made history by breaking our record for the Emerging Designers Showcase—it had more attendees than the International Showcase for the first time ever,” said Williams. “This proves that there are so many talented designers based in DC with strong followings. International designers travel here from overseas, so while they may not have the same level of local support, we make sure to highlight their collections throughout the show.”

Williams believes that DCFW is an exciting opportunity and is grateful for the vendors, sponsors, and supporters who contribute to this staple event in D.C.’s fashion scene. As this nonprofit event continues to grow, he wants it to continue being a platform that uplifts designers and creatives, helping them break into the fashion industry.

“I’m just happy that, especially in this economy, people continue to support fashion in D.C.—we’re truly fortunate,” Williams shared. “Many major retailers and luxury labels are facing challenges, yet the DMV area continues to show incredible support. As a nonprofit, we pride ourselves on being one of the most competitively priced major fashion weeks because we believe showcasing fashion shouldn’t come at an overwhelming cost.”

Sophia Matveeva, a Ukrainian designer featured in DCFW, infused her collection with a deeply personal connection to her homeland. Through her designs, she paid homage to Ukrainian culture while showcasing the resilience and strength of her nation through contemporary fashion.

In light of today’s global political climate, Matveeva sought to bring a message of hope and positivity to the people of Ukraine. One of her standout designs incorporated an armadillo and its armor, a creature prominent in America, blended with influences from Ukraine to symbolize the resilience and strength of both nations.

Matveeva emphasized that while her collection doesn’t feature many national symbols, it still carries the spirit of her homeland. “Directly in my collection, there are no real symbols or anything that is highly used. I decided to implement a futuristic look and elements of my country that we all love. It shows our strength,” she explained.

Matveeva along with many of the other international fashion designers and models featured in DCFW were very grateful to be apart of such a monumental event in DC’s fashion scene.

Cordelia Dreisonstok, a model, expressed her excitement about being apart of such an impactful event. For her, the experience was more than just walking the runway. It was an event to network, gain more visibility, and further establish herself within the fashion industry.

Dresinstok also emphasized her gratitude towards Williams, the mastermind behind DCFW. “He’s very innovative with his fashions, very creative, and has an absolute fantastic eye on how this event should be run,” she shared.

As Williams final collection enriched the atrium and closed out the last event of DCFW, it was clear that it has continued to be an amazing platform to share the creativity and culture of international and emerging designers within the DC community.

From emerging talents to international designers, the showcase highlighted fashion’s ability to bring people together and tell meaningful stories through design. With its 21-year legacy still growing, DCFW remains a testament to the strength and vibrancy of the fashion scene in the nation’s capital.
