Even though Aang’s journey is over, there is still more in the Avatar-verse for fans to learn and enjoy. The original series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and The Legend of Korra both came to an end many years ago. Since then, there have been a lot of rumors and news about other projects coming in the future. One of those projects is a new animated series to follow what the first two had built. Brand New Series, Avatar: Seven Havens
Nickelodeon greenlit a new 2D-animated series set in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe. This new series is being written by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the creators of the Avatar: The Last Airbender. This announcement was revealed on Feb. 20th 2025 as the original series, The Last Airbender, prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary, with the show that started it all debuting on Feb. 21st, 2005. The news was announced by Ramsey Naito, President of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation.
“For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally,” said Naito. “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”
The new series is titled “Avatar: Seven Havens” and will consist of 26 half-hour episodes. These episodes are believed to be spread across two seasons. Seven Havens is the third series within the Avatar-verse, following the original and The Legend of Korra. This new series centers around a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar.
“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” said Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko in a joint statement. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”
According to the show’s current description, Seven Havens is set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.

What is Avatar: The Last Airbender?
Avatar: The Last Airbender is a 2D-animated kids cartoon created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio. It consists of three seasons and ran from 2005 to 2007. The series is set in a fantasy world where some people use a Chinese-inspired martial art known as bending. The series follows the journey of twelve-year-old Aang, the current Avatar and last survivor of his nation, along with his friends as they strive to end the Fire Nation’s war against the other nations and defeat the Fire Lord before he conquers the world. Avatar: The Last Airbender was an incredibly successful cartoon and received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences, with high praise for its characters, cultural references, art direction and more.
Along with the new series, a Last Airbender feature film focusing on the original series’ main character, Aang, is set for release in January 2026. This highly anticipated film is said to debut only in theaters on January 30th, 2026. In 2024, Netflix launched a live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Unfortunately, DiMartino and Konietzko aren’t involved in this project due to creative differences. Netflix’s live-action adaption is said to run for two more seasons.
