On World Beer Day (5th August), here are some of the top homegrown brands that are making their mark in this flourishing alcobev business.
On a hot day, Indians enjoy nothing more than cracking open a frosty beverage. Or well, any day. The production of locally produced beer has undergone significant expansion, and breweries can be found almost wherever in the country. We have come a very long way from the concoctions made with rice and barley that once brought joy to our ancestors.
On the occasion of World Beer Day (August 5), we would like to highlight some of the most successful native brands that are making their mark in the thriving alcoholic beverage industry.
COPTER7

Copter7, which was first introduced to the market by 7Ink Brews, is available in two distinct iterations: Copter7 Premium Strong and Copter7 Premium Lager. The Copter7 Strong is a malty amber lager with a light toasted fragrance and low levels of bitterness, while the Copter7 Premium Lager is a light and crisp beer. Both versions of this beer are available. These beers are brewed locally in Karnataka and Punjab in facilities that are on the cutting edge of technology, using hops and malts of the highest quality. It is their most recent launch, and it was inspired by their brand ambassador Dhoni’s iconic helicopter shot. The unique packaging and labelling is another remarkable aspect; it was inspired by the many jerseys worn by cricket players and the colours they wore. They have just lately introduced a new line of non-alcoholic beers that contain zero percent alcohol and are available in two flavours: cherry and cranberry.
IRON HILL

This beer is produced with high-quality raw ingredients that are imported from the countries where they are sourced, as well as others that are sourced locally, in order to bring together enthusiasts of craft beer with original brews. Teja Chekuri established Iron Hill India in 2017 as the first microbrewery in Andhra Pradesh. Iron Hill India is located in Andhra Pradesh. This beer may now be purchased in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, and Bangalore; however, the company has plans to extend distribution to additional cities across the country by the end of 2022.
MAKA DI

Regulars at a brewery in Goa have stated that the beers produced there are on par with those produced in European countries such as Germany and Belgium. There are currently four different varieties available, and they are as follows: Belgian Blanche, Honey Ale, Bavarian Kellerbier, and Belgian Tripel. This wonderful beer has greater body because to the addition of Belgian yeast, which also gives the Belgian Blanche a hint of floral hop flavour. Goa, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Chandigarh are the other cities in India where you may get this beer.
SEVEN RIVERS

When the Indian unit of Anheuser Busch InBev introduced two native wheat beers in 2019, it caught its customers by surprise and gave birth to the Seven Rivers Brewing Co. This locally brewed beer brand quickly became everyone’s favourite after it was released, and it was featured in Instagram stories all over the place. Its packaging was bright and colourful. At introduction, it was available in two flavours: Machaa and Veere.
KATI PATANG

Kati Patang is a brand of craft beer that is relatively new to the market in India. It is particularly well-known for the sparkling clear and clean Himalayan spring water that is used in the production of its beer. The beer was first manufactured in Bhutan’s Serbhum brewery, and the name alludes to people who are unapologetically free-spirited and refuse to allow anything to stifle their right to express themselves freely. When Kati Patang first became available in India in 2018, the capital city of Delhi was the only region to be able to try it. But as of recently, you can also purchase this brand in the cities of Chandigarh, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. At the moment, there are four different varieties of Kati Patang available: Bareilly Bold, Zesty Amber, Snappy Wheat, and Saffron Lager.
SIMBA

Simba has garnered a legion of devoted followers all around the nation. Tier beers, as opposed to beers produced on a huge scale, are brewed in tiny quantities utilising recipes that have been carefully crafted. The Simba Wit is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Belgian Wit style. It does not have an overpowering sweetness and has a subtle citrus flavour, which makes it quite refreshing. Spice overtones come from the coriander seeds, but what really sets this craft beer apart from the rest are the lemongrass undertones that are present both in the aroma and on the tongue. It has a fluffy head and a golden hazy appearance as it pours. It has a low level of body and it is revitalising, which makes it an excellent session beverage.
GODFATHER

The enduring brand is owned by DeVans Modern Breweries, which began operations in 1961 and introduced the brand in 1984. The brand has endured the test of time. You may get it in two different varieties: Super 8, which has an alcohol by volume (ABV) content of eight percent, and Legendry, which has an ABV of seven point two percent.
