When asked “Who’s your favorite James Bond?,” many people answer Daniel Craig. With Craig portraying the titular character in the highest grossing Bond film, Skyfall, and what many consider the best Bond film, Casino Royale, many wonder “How did Daniel Craig get his iconic role as James Bond?”
And surprisingly, the phrase “It’s not what you know but who” applies here as well. In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, X-Men actor Michael Fassbender admitted to recommending Daniel Craig for the iconic role. Funnily enough, Fassbender was auditioning for the role himself. He actually auditioned before Craig was even considered, “But I remember going into that room and sort of meeting with her and Wilson, and I was like, ‘I think Daniel Craig is…’ I don’t know why I was promoting him. I should’ve been promoting myself … Obviously Daniel went on to be the most successful Bond in history.”

However, with the most recent Bond film “No Time to Die”, the role is now once again vacant. Daniel Craig’s sentiments were nothing short of sad, “It’s been five movies and I’m incredibly proud of every single one of them.” Plus with Amazon MGM’s partnership with the Broccoli’s to take over the franchise creatively, there may be a chance for the Frank actor to dawn the suit of James Bond. His starring role in Black Bag, the espionage thriller directed by Steven Soderbaugh, definitely helps his case. His work in David Fincher’s The Killer shows that he can play cold and methodical while also being smooth and charismatic.
Many fans are anticipating who will be the next Bond, there are many names in the running. However, one name that should stand out is Michael Fassbender.
